Finally, after months of disrupted sleep, I have reverted back to sleeping 12am - 8am.

I have been going to bed at midnight for at least 30 years and waking at 7am.
Since I retired 4 years ago I now wake at 8am. New normal.

But since I returned from my overseas holiday in October my sleep pattern has been erratic, only getting 3-4 hours longest period and laying awake till all hours. Since Christmas I got in the habit if I was awake for more than 1 hour I would get up and potter around the house or read.

No energy and no inclination to do any thing during the day.

My brother started his first course of chemo on Monday, he was very nervous at first but the staff at Westmead Hospital - Cancer Care Centre were marvelous and put him at ease. A friend of his is going to drop in on Saturday to check on him and see he has plenty of food and will mow the lawn if needed as Bruce has been banned from gardening to guard against risk of infections.

Wednesday, 13 April 2011

Yesterday I went into Westmead Hospital -Day Care Cancer Clinic - with my brother to view a film on chemotheraphy and a information session.

I was very impressed by the amount of info they gave us as well as the layout of the chemo injection suites - open plan - so no-one was left unattended or isolated from other fellow chemo patients with room for their support family/friend to be with them.

My brother had to have a blood test to see if his white blood cells were healthy enough to combat an infections that may arise from the chemo attacking the cancer cells and any other fast growing cells. He would have to monitor his temperature and any rise above normal would see him going directly to hospital. If the blood test is ok he will start chemo next Monday.

--- I needed to type this in two parts as my brain is trying to look at this situation in a positive way and at the same time looking at it in a practical? way. ---

During our chat while walking to the hospital from the car, Bruce informed me the doctor had told him on his last visit that he was dying, that he may have a couple of months to live, that there will be no more surgery or radiotherapy, that the last resort would be chemotherapy, he had a choice whether to go ahead or not.

Obviously, Bruce had decided to go ahead -- whether there will be any change/improvement there is no guarantee. I could only point out the option of quality or quantity of life to him.

Personally I would rather he made the most of his time left doing all the things he enjoys rather than spending umpteen hours sitting in a hospital with toxic chemicals flowing through his veins.

My brother, Bruce and I at my sister, Cathy's 60th Birthday
Photobucket
It had a 1920s Gangster and Moll theme. LOL
A great night had by all who attended.

My brother was operated on about 5 years ago for throat and tongue cancer, a 10 hour operation. 3 years ago he had a tumour removed from the top of his head. The tumours have returned and the week before the party he had one removed from the side of his face. He is indestructible... as you can see he was in party mode and having a great time.

offered to take a pic of me as you can see I'm working hard.

There were no surf boardriders out today as the beach was closed but when it is low tide the boardies cast off from these low rocks in front and then paddle out to catch the waves coming in otherwise it's a long paddle out to get beyond the breakers to ride the waves in.

Sunday a beautiful warm sunny Autumn day.

I went out to get the Sunday papers and 5 hours later came home with two pairs of new shoes and 3 DVDs,
so much for saving my hard earned cash.

I have not bought any new sandles for 10 years and the last being two pairs of the same style Navy and Brown. They were on sale for 2 for $30. :-o.The poor things have literally falllen apart through constant use.

I Love Bargains!!!

One pair of leather sandles- Naturalizer brand - was marked down from AU$109 to $29.95

The other black"Riversoft" shoes were marked down from $79.95 to $39.99.

I plan to do a lot of walking in these shoes. So comfy.

I know some women don't like sandles and prefer slip- ons but my feet are narrow with not a high arch and so I tend to 'walk' out of slip-ons. lol

And I did remember to buy my papers though
I haven't been able to read them in peace.
